“The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I’m not going to let myself pull me down anymore.”

C. JoyBell

The way you see yourself impacts how you feel about yourself. If you’re not feeling good about yourself you aren’t going to feel good about others. You won’t play well with them. And you won’t work well.

A few years ago, for reasons I won’t go into, I got into the habit of wearing what I referred to as my “bumming around the house” clothes. I wore these anytime I was home and not going out. They were clothes that I demoted due to either fit or condition. After a time I realized I wasn’t my usual self. As I was pondering this change in attitude I happened to catch a glance of myself in the mirror. I stopped and stared at the stranger in the mirror. That is NOT me, I thought.

I liked the idea of wearing things that are comfortable and that would not hurt my feelings if I spilled something or got dirty in the yard. I went out and bought myself several sweat suits, tops and matching bottoms in colors I liked. I still had around the house clothes but I no longer looked like a bum. And I felt better about myself.

Recently I stopped working outside the home.  When you go to work or school every day you get up , take care of yourself, get dressed and get going. When you don’t have to go out it is easy to fall into the habit of not doing these things.  I started not feeling good about me again.

We have to remember that the things we do like hygiene, mani-pedi, doing your hair, dressing nicely, etc, we do for ourselves.  Even if we are staying home we deserve to take care of us. No, you don’t have to put on your power suit to go your home office. It is nice that we can work in our jammies, but should you? I have found the answer to be no.

Put yourself at the top of your to-do list every single day, and the rest will fall into place.”

When I get up and go through the same getting ready for work rituals I performed before going  to my job, I find that my mind shifts into “going to work” mode.  When I take care of me, I am better able to interact with others. I get more done. Then I feel even better.

Remember, as a solopreneur, your are a CEO,CFO, VIP executive! Start each day as a successful business owner and  OWN the day. If you start your day by giving yourself the care you deserve, you will feel powerful all day. When you look in the mirror see a successful person who deserves the success she aspires to .

“With every act of self-care, your authentic self gets stronger, and the critical, fearful mind gets weaker. Every act of self-care is a powerful declaration: I am on my side; I am on my side; each day I am more and more on my own side.”
